MIDDLE OF NOWHERE WINS COVETED SPIRIT AWARD!

(February 22, 2013)  Kandoo Films was proud to pick up another big prize for our breakthrough film Middle of Nowhwere, with the coveted John Cassavetes Award at the 2013 Independent Spirit Awards.  The Cassavetes award is presented to the creative team of a film budgeted at less than $500,000.

Writer/Director/Producer Ava DuVernay, who also took home the Best Director Award at Sundance, was accompanied by producers Howard Barish of Kandoo Films and Paul Garnes. Nowhere is a compelling drama that chronicles a woman’s (Emayatzy Corinealdi) separation from her incarcerated husband (Omari Hardwick) and her intense journey to reconcile her marriage with her identity. This is Duvernay’s second feature film. Her first, I Will Follow, debuted on March 11, 2011, to stellar reviews.
